Westlock Is the Supply-Chain Question Bill 208 Must Answer

Prairie Coalition says the Westlock illegal-cigarette case shows why rural enforcement and storage networks belong in the Bill 208 conversation.

A rural enforcement warning

Heartland News reported that Westlock RCMP seized 2,954 master cases of unstamped cigarettes, more than 29.5 million cigarettes, after 15 search warrants. The article said the cigarettes were valued at just over $30 million with nearly $10 million in unpaid taxes.

The status matters

The same Heartland News report said a 50-year-old Westlock resident was charged and scheduled for court on October 29. Those are charges, not proof of guilt, and the case still shows how rural storage, movement, and resale networks can matter.

Prairie question

If legal access narrows, what is Alberta doing to monitor delivery, storage sites, social resale, and rural movement?
